Document could not be opened

Pixelmator Pro updated to 1.5.4 last night. This morning I cannot open any photo. The message reads "The document ---could not be opened".
The app was working yesterday on 1.5.3. The app was bought through Apple's App Store. I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling, but it still gives me the same message.

My computer was just updated to Catalina 10.15.2 and rebooted. Pixelmator 1.5.4 is now working properly.
