Even though this is not good English, please do not block me. I am not a native English speaker. Sorry
I just started Pixelmator Pro about a few days ago.

I read viewtopic.php?f=18&t=17893.
And I did followings to make a layer of selected area.

1. made closed path with pen tool
2. option+cmd+L to load
3. shift+cmd+D to duplicate the selected area

I expected the copied layer would only contain selected area but it contained path itself(I think)
Selection with select tool --> shift+cmd+D is what I want in path

Thanks

Your English is superb, and your instructions were easy to follow as well! Its also great to meet an artist from another language!

Anyway, Where is your photo from? I had the exact same problem with one photo from iPhoto, yet when I put that same photo onto my desktop, and then imported it into Pixelmator, I had no problem. try it yourself! and if you continue to have a problem with it, try to find what type of document or photo causes it, as this helps the Developers fix the problem much easier. Good Luck!

Another option is to:
1. Make the closed path
2. Hit ⌥⌘L (Option + Command + L)
3. Go to the layer you want to be masked and ⌃ (Control) click on it
4. Select 'Add Mask'
5. Press ⌘D (Command + D) to deselect the selection
6. Hide or Delete the pen tool layer.
Hope either option works for you!

reboot my computer.
tried ⌥⌘N to import jpeg and ⌥O to import jpeg from my desktop.
In both cases, I think the path was not changed to select when ⌥⌘L was applied.(I think the line of path would be changed to dashed line. Am I right?)

Hello, I'm trying this but cannot get it to work with a path, I get a fully black mask every try. Do you know if something has changed?

As per the other thread I guess you have the order/hierarchy wrong in the Layers panel.
