Using the color selection tool and "Select Color Range..." doesn't seem to work for what I'm doing.I simply want to remove the gray color from around the numbers, so remove the background. Magic erasing this takes forever and I know there has to be a better way. Does anyone know?

Note: "Remove background" does not work for this, it deletes the entire image.

What you call "gray" is already transparent:

I tried that multiple times and even dragged the range up and down, experimented with it. It only selected the color within the confined space. - I did have the correct layer selected because it was only one layer.

I've done the exact same thing in the past and it's done its thing properly, and other times not. I don't know what I can be doing wrong the times it doesn't work.

Also, would it be better for this kind of selecting to have smooth edges enabled or disabled?

I did try it again just now and it worked properly, I don't know. I'm certain I was doing just that earlier. Thanks!
