Clone tool not working properly with large images (panorama shots)

Is something not working like it should? Let us know.

When using a large image (in my case a panorama foto shot with iPhone 8, size 16382x3770) in Pixelmator Pro (v1.6 Magenta), the clone tool won't work on Pixels larger than 8400 in x direction.

I tried it with 2 different images. Every other tool (brush, pencil, etc) works properly. But you can't draw with a cloned stamp in the area after 8500px. I opened the same image in Pixelmator Classic (v3.9), there it worked fine.

In the attached picture you can see that there is a "hidden" barrier after the mark of 8400px. Image

Hey there, thanks for reporting this! I tried reproducing this in a similar image and I wasn't able to do so so I might be doing something wrong or the photo or Mac model/OS version might be a factor here. Could you share the file you're trying this on? You can upload it http://upload.pixelmator.com, then copy and paste the link here. Also, could you let me know your Mac model and version of macOS?

I uploaded the pxd file: http://upload-cdn.pixelmator.com/Panorama.pxd.zip

My Mac specs:
- iMac 27" Late 2012
- MacOS Catalina (10.15.4)
- 3.4Ghz Core i7
- 24GB DDR3 RAM
- 1TB Fusion Drive
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 680MX 2 GB

But as I mentioned before: It works fine in Pixelmator Classic and every other software I have (affinity, Krita)

Thanks a lot for sharing the sample file! I wasn't able to repro this on my 2017 MBPro, so it looks to be device/GPU-specific. I've passed this on to the devs though, we'll do some digging to see if we can pin down the cause. I'll let you know as soon as I have some news!

I'm having the same issue. Happily cloning away and then suddenly the clone stamp stops cloning. I can apply healing, but not cloning to a portion of the image.

Does it stop cloning completely or do cloned areas get cut off at a certain part of the image? Also, does this tend to happen with certain images and, if so, are they tall/wide shots like the panorama example above?

Image Hi, I'm having an issue as well, the cloning stamp stops cloning in my main layer after I used the selection tool then repair. I checked, both my layers are unlocked. The stamp seems to work as usual but when I click, it doesn't clone.
It occured already two times since yesterday, both times on panorama shots indeed.
I'm on the trial version 1.6.4
MBP 15 mid-2014, Catalina 10.15.15, Intel Core i7 2.2GHz, GPU Intel Iris Pro 1536 Mo
Thanks for the help, cheers !

Edit : I notice that when I select the second layer, and I place the source on my main layer and the stamp in the second layer, it actually clones, but not the other way around ! Whatever layer i chose in the toolbar

Hi Valoche, looks like your screenshot didn't upload correctly (there was in issue with certain characters — fixed now), could you share it again by any chance?

I have pixelmator pro 1.4. When I select the clone tool it has a narrow-lined circle with a dotted line going off the pallet area. When I place the narrow-lined circle on the part of the image I want to duplicate, my Mac makes an error sound. What am I doing wrong? This is a small portrait oriented image.

Hey Mary, have you added some text or shapes to the image? If so, those layers cannot be cloned using the Clone tool and you'll need to make sure an image layer is selected instead. If that's not it, would you be able to share a screenshot of your Pixelmator Pro app window with the Clone tool selected and the image you're trying to edit? That would give me some clues as to what could be going wrong.
