Just updated to Pro 1.5.2 -I like the long list of changes - but I tried to print to a PDF several times but got an error message. Image

I rebooted my Mac and tried again, still failed. I did open the saved jpg with preview and exported to pdf just fine. Me thinks something is wrong with print to pdf. Later, from Pro, I later exported to pdf successfully.

Just to clarify, are you still able to repro this? A quick check showed me this should be working but it could be file-specific...

I tested on 4 previously completed pxds, just now. Print to pdf fails on each of them. Just to be sure I actually printed one of them that printed okay.

Understood, could you email us about this at support@pixelmator.com? We'll investigate!

I recently emailed the Pro info. To add insult to injury. I tried the same with a similar pxm. It also filled to print to pdf, but exported to pdf okay.

Thanks! Hopefully, we'll be able to get to the bottom of it.

My earlier emailed message now pasted here:

I am away from my computer now. I seem to remember I printed a jpg to pdf successfully in Preview after PP initially failed me. But I tried to print2pdf from Affinity this am and that also failed. I was able to print a txt file 2pdf successfully. Something about images print2pdf?

I have also just gotten new Epson print drivers installed this am - same result - and I have no idea if that’s what print2pdf uses.

I am still experiencing this bug. Is there a schedule for this to be fixed or is there a work-around?

As far as we were able to find, this appears to be a macOS bug, rather than a Pixelmator Pro bug — that feature is actually part of the Print dialog and, if we're not mistaken, you should see the same error in other apps. Is this true in your case?

Also, is there a reason why you'd rather print to PDF instead of using the regular File > Export command to export to PDF?

Muscle memory - using ⌘P for so many years but I have switched to ⌘E in PixPro. And, yes, it failed in other graphic apps.

Understood, thanks for following up!

The problem is now gone in Pixelmator (not sure what updated). I did not try it in other graphic apps. Did no notice Word stopping my from printing to PDF though, so not sure if it was widespread or just PM.

You ask why not use export? I don't use Pixelmator frequently so I don't even think about export. I just follow the most simple, obvious way to generate a PDF and hope the software works.

Makes sense, thanks for the explanation! I wasn't actually aware of the print to PDF feature personally but, now that I know, it does seem pretty handy.

Oddly "print to PDF" now works from PixPro. Image Image
