Erasing with stroke enabled on layer creates shape of erased portion

For example if I have 2 layers with stroke enabled on the top layer, once I erase on the top layer a visible trail is left. All my settings are default.

This is a blank, colored canvas + the image. I erased the head of the zebra and applied blue colored stroke on the zebra image. The stroke also gets applied to the erased portion.

I'm a novice so I don't know if this is a feature but I couldn't find a setting to disable the outline of the erased part

I guess you should either disable the background layer while using Repair or uncheck "Sample all layers":
