I'm trying to trim off unwanted elements of a png image that are sitting outside of a line circle I have created but I have no idea how to do it. I want the image to remain see through (png) but so far I'm drawing a blank!! I've tried clipping masks but can't get it to work.
Please can someone help?

From what I see it´s already transparent regarding to the checkerboard.
Or do you want to get rid off the poking parts of the note outside the circle? In this case duplicate the circle - select note shape plus circle and go Format->Shape->Intersect Shapes if needed proceed with the result and go Format->Shape->Merge Shape Components.
