EDIT: I had not even started writing this post and it posted...

It seems unnecessary to loudly declare the version number whenever the app is open. Those red bubbles are for notifications or alerts. Not to permanently show the version number. Imagine if every app did this. That'd be awful.

Is there a way to disable this? Is there a setting I have enabled by mistake?

My icon in the dock does NOT show up as yours does. I'm unfamiliar with any system setting that might cause that. Curious, do you have multiple installations of Pixelmator Pro on your system that might "make" the system report which version you are using?
But I can't make that happen either. Image

Hmmm... I assumed it was Pixelmator Pro's fault. No other app does this.

As a habit I keep older versions of Pixelmator Pro (as I do with Final Cut Pro) incase I run into issues with older documents in the future. These are kept on an external drive and should not interfere with the system since they are not where the OS looks for applications. This is a common thing to do and I've never seen anyone run into issues.

I have just checked and there is only ONE "Kind: Application" Pixelmator Pro on my Macintosh HD

No other app that I keep older versions of displays the version number as an alert. (it only does this when open)

It's mildly irritated me for long enough that I've finally made a thread. It's not a HUGE deal but it's something I'd rather get rid of

In the Finder Application folder Select Pixelmator Pro and right-click and select Get Info to open the option menu and look at the application name. This is what is displayed in the Dock.

If you want to change it the system will ask you for your password.

Lysander, that does not explain how he gets the red version number rectangle in the dock image.

100% - I have never seen that behavior from any app. There is no control that I can find the would create this. Maybe reach out to Apple support and see if they can tell you anything.

So strange that it does this. Thanks for trying to help! It didn't always do this and there's nothing that I changed that would cause this.

By any chance, Undertaker01, do any of the older versions of PixPro do the same thing? Try dragging an older version to the dock and start it up. Does it behave the same. AND is PixPro permanently in the dock? You probably already tried many things but check any version in and out of the dock - kill and relaunch the dock [ 'killall Dock' as root ]

No they didn't used to do it. And this is a thing that's been happening for a couple months at this point. Dozens of restarts and what later. I was just hoping it was something built in I could turn off. It's not causing any damage so I guess I'll leave it alone for now. Thanks for trying to help.

LeoOrn, Are you seeing the same "problem" as Undertaker01, a red version number notification on the dock Icon? If so, what is the number?
