When Pixelmator Pro extension is selected to edit an HDR photo, an error message appears
Image

Despite the declared lack of support, the HDR photo can be edited. HDR images are not displayed while editing, but on saving the brighter HDR image is shown, and saved.

Using macOS Sonoma 14.3 (23D56), Pixelmator Pro 3.5.6.

Please investigate.

Hey Tom. That's a good question... To work with HDR content, Apple XDR Display reference mode needs to be enabled on your Mac. Can you check if you are using a different one, by any chance? Here's how you can choose a reference mode: https://support.apple.com/en-us/108321

This issue probably is not restricted to the Photos extension. I usually work in Photos, but I think once when I opened a photo in Pixelmator Pro I saw the same notice.

Since the 3.5.7 update I no longer get the "... does not support HDR" warning shown above. However, the images shown while editing in Photos with the Photometer extension do show what I believe are anomalous colors and intensity, so I suspect more remains to be done before all associated problems are fixed.

Nope, false report of improvement. Too much wishful thinking, I guess. Bug remains as initially reported. Except now I can say I see it intermittently.
