Image darkens before editing

When I open a RAW image in Photomator it automatically darkens the image significantly a second later, before I start editing. Usually for the worse. Any ideas what’s causing that, and how I stop that? It never happens after the first edit.

My guess would be that it displays the embedded jpeg preview image while loading the raw, causing this. I see something similar when loading HIF images

Martin, thanks for the suggestion. I have been talking to Photomator support about this. The effect is much more noticeable when the HDR loading is enabled, although it happens even with it off. I was told that the HDR issue is affected by my apple Studio display limit of 600 nits. They suggested reducing brightness if I wanted to load HDR. I let them know that this only happens in Photomator, not Apple Photos. They are continuing to investigate, and I'll post any solutions that are reached.
