Changing the Color of a specific section.

Hi,
Could some one bullet point the steps I need to take to isolate a section of an image in pixelmator pro and then change its Color?

One article suggested the Quick Select tool but I am confused at how to use this. I draw over the area but when I release it vanishes. Where do I go from here in order to change its Color?

And it's always good to tell your PixPro version and MacOS version.
