Set Photos Extension settings

You can choose whether or not you’d like to preserve your nondestructive edits — such as layers, adjustments, and effects — in your Photos library after you edit an image using the Pixelmator Pro extension in macOS Photos.

Set Photos extension settings

  1. Choose Pixelmator Pro > Settings (from the Pixelmator Pro menu at the top of your screen).
  2. Under Open Images In, choose Original Format to save extension edits to a dedicated sidecar file, or Pixelmator Pro Format, to save extension edits as Pixelmator Pro documents. This setting will also apply when opening images from other locations in Pixelmator Pro.
  3. In the Editing tab under Preserve Edits, choose how to save edits:
    • Select For Images Opened from Photos to save photos opened using the Photos extension while preserving all layers and edits.
    • Deselect For Images Opened from Photos to overwrite original photos in the photo library when saving.

You can choose to save Pixelmator Pro documents with the nondestructive changes to iCloud or the Pictures folder on your Mac. If iCloud is turned off, the documents will be automatically saved to Pictures.
